My Soul's Journey

Where Science and Spirituality Meet

For over four decades, I've been exploring the frontier where science and spirituality converge. This journey hasn't been a straight path but rather a spiralling exploration that has brought me to unexpected places and remarkable people, each adding their own light to my understanding of what it means to live fully.

The First Stirrings

My awakening began when I was just 10 years old. Like many children, I sensed something beyond what I was being taught, a deeper connection to nature, to wonder, and to possibility. While other aspects of my childhood shaped me to fit certain moulds, this inner knowing never fully dimmed.

As the years passed, these early stirrings would become a steady flame guiding me through diverse landscapes, from concert halls to broadcasting studios, from embassy gatherings to scientific institutions.

Nature's Classroom

The natural world has been my most consistent teacher. Whether walking through Australian bushland or tending to my garden, I've found that nature offers endless metaphors for our human journey:

The patient unfurling of a fern. The quiet persistence of water shaping stone. The necessary darkness before new growth emerges.

These aren't just poetic observations—they're profound principles that guide my approach to supporting others. Nature doesn't rush, yet everything happens in perfect time.

A Life in Harmonies

Music opened doorways I never knew existed. Through classical singing, managing a busy community radio station, producing programs and interviewing amazing people to my years with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra as philanthropy manager, I discovered how music reaches places in us that words cannot. I witnessed the transformative power of harmony, both literal and metaphorical.

One of my most treasured experiences was establishing the "Rediscovering Music" program for people with cochlear implants. Watching someone hear a symphony orchestra for the first time—seeing their face illuminate with joy—showed me the profound healing that comes when we reconnect with something essential we thought was lost.

"I don't understand why everyone isn't jumping up on their seats dancing!" one young man exclaimed after hearing orchestral music for the first time. His pure response, unconstrained by social convention, reminds me of how we might all experience life if we removed our filters

The Frontier of Possibility

My work at the Australian Academy of Science brought me daily into the presence of brilliant minds pushing the boundaries of what we understand about our world. I often said, "Every day I go home smarter!" Yet what struck me most wasn't just the intellectual brilliance but how the greatest scientific discoveries exist at the edge of mystery.

It was here that I witnessed how science and spirituality are not opposing forces but complementary approaches to understanding our existence. Standing at this frontier, I've had the privilege of learning from remarkable innovators like Professor Graeme Clark, whose cochlear implant invention has allowed thousands to experience sound in new ways.

Gathering the Threads

All these experiences—arts, broadcasting, philanthropy, science—have woven together to create the tapestry of understanding I now share with others. Each seemingly separate path has contributed essential wisdom:

  • From music: The importance of beauty, harmony, rhythm, and allowing each voice to be heard

  • From radio: The power of deep listening and thoughtful questions

  • From philanthropy: How true giving creates space for transformation

  • From science: The wonder of our adaptable, responsive nature and unlimited potential

Walking With Others

Today, I bring these gathered threads to my work with women seeking more in their lives. Whether you're a younger woman feeling overwhelmed by expectations or someone in midlife searching for renewed purpose, I offer not a formula but a companionship along your unique path.

This isn't about fixing what's broken—it's about creating space for what's possible. It's about gently removing the constraints we've accepted and allowing our essential nature to expand into its fullest expression.
